Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 February 2025

1. Overview & Data Controller

NamazMate (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use the NamazMate mobile application (the “App”), available on iOS and Android, and when you visit our website at namazmate.com (the “Website”).

Data Controller:
NamazMate
Email: support@namazmate.com

By using the App or Website, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. Where we rely on consent as the legal basis for processing, we will obtain your explicit consent before processing your personal data for that purpose.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Location Data (Precise Geolocation)

The App requests access to your device’s precise geolocation to calculate accurate prayer times and determine Qibla direction. This location data is processed on your device only and is not transmitted to, collected by, or stored on our servers. You can revoke location permission at any time through your device settings, though this will affect the accuracy of prayer times and Qibla features.

2.2 Information Collected by Third-Party SDKs

The App integrates the Google AdMob SDK for displaying advertisements. The AdMob SDK may automatically collect the following data:

  • Device identifiers – Android Advertising ID (AAID) or Apple Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA)
  • IP address
  • Ad interaction data – impressions, clicks, and conversions
  • Diagnostic information – crash logs, app performance data
  • General device information – device model, operating system version, screen size, language

This data is collected and processed by Google in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy. All data collected by the AdMob SDK is encrypted in transit via TLS.

2.3 App Usage Data

We may collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics (e.g. which features are used most frequently, app version, general crash reports) to improve the App. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.

2.4 Information We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any personal identifiers through the App
  • We do not require account registration or login
  • We do not store your prayer history, religious preferences, or any religious data on our servers
  • We do not operate backend servers that store user data
  • All user preferences, Tasbih counts, prayer tracking data, and settings are stored exclusively on your device

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), and Switzerland, we process personal data on the following legal bases under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Consent (Article 6(1)(a)): We obtain your explicit consent before the AdMob SDK processes your data for personalised advertising. You may withdraw consent at any time (see Section 10). Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
  • Legitimate Interests (Article 6(1)(f)): We process anonymous usage data to improve the App’s functionality and fix bugs. Our legitimate interest is providing a reliable and useful prayer companion. We have assessed that this processing does not override your rights and freedoms.
  • Performance of a Contract (Article 6(1)(b)): Processing location data on your device is necessary to provide the App’s core features (prayer times, Qibla direction) that you requested by downloading and using the App.

4. How We Use Your Information

The information associated with your use of the App is used for the following purposes:

  • Core functionality: calculating prayer times, determining Qibla direction, providing Islamic calendar data, and powering Tasbih counter features (all processed on-device)
  • Advertising: displaying advertisements via Google AdMob to support the App being free
  • App improvement: analysing anonymous usage patterns to fix bugs, improve performance, and guide feature development
  • Fraud prevention: AdMob uses certain data to prevent advertising fraud

5. Third-Party Services & Data Sharing

We share data with the following third-party services:

5.1 Google AdMob

Google AdMob displays advertisements in the App. AdMob collects device identifiers, IP addresses, and ad interaction data to serve ads and measure ad performance. AdMob may share this data with its advertising partners.

5.2 Apple App Store & Google Play Store

The App is distributed via the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. These platforms may collect analytics data related to app downloads, usage, and crashes in accordance with their own privacy policies:

We do not sell your personal information to any third party for monetary consideration. However, the sharing of data with AdMob for advertising purposes may constitute “sharing” as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (see Section 13).

6. Advertising & Cookies

NamazMate uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. Ad revenue allows us to provide the App free of charge.

6.1 What AdMob Collects

The AdMob SDK may collect device identifiers (IDFA/AAID), IP addresses, and ad interaction data to serve relevant advertisements, measure ad performance, and prevent fraud.

6.2 Personalised vs. Non-Personalised Ads

Where required by law (including in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland), we will obtain your explicit consent before AdMob serves personalised advertisements. If you do not consent, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalised based on your data.

6.3 Consent Management (EEA, UK, Switzerland)

For users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, we use a consent management solution compliant with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF) 2.2 to obtain and manage your consent for personalised advertising, as required by Google’s EU User Consent Policy.

6.4 Opting Out of Personalised Advertising

You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time through your device settings:

  • iOS: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking — disable tracking for NamazMate
  • Android: Settings > Google > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalisation

You may also use your browser’s Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal when visiting our Website. We recognise and honour GPC signals as a valid opt-out request.

6.5 Cookies and Similar Technologies

The App and AdMob SDK may use cookies, device identifiers, and similar tracking technologies for advertising and analytics purposes. On our Website, you can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings.

7. International Data Transfers

The AdMob SDK may transfer data collected from your device to Google servers located in the United States and other countries outside your country of residence. These transfers are necessary to provide advertising services.

For users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, Google relies on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission and other appropriate safeguards to ensure that transferred data receives an adequate level of protection in compliance with GDPR Articles 44–50.

For users in Australia, we disclose that data processed by AdMob may be transferred to the United States and other countries where Google operates. We take reasonable steps to ensure that overseas recipients handle your information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles.

8. Data Retention

  • Location data: processed on-device in real time and not stored persistently. Not retained by us.
  • User preferences and app data: stored locally on your device for as long as the App is installed. Uninstalling the App deletes this data.
  • AdMob advertising data: retained by Google in accordance with Google’s data retention policies. We do not control the retention period for data collected by AdMob.
  • Anonymous usage analytics: retained in aggregated form for up to 24 months to identify long-term trends.

We regularly review the data we hold and delete or anonymise data that is no longer needed for its original purpose.

9. Data Storage & Security

All personal user data (prayer preferences, Tasbih counts, settings) is stored exclusively on your device. We do not operate backend servers that store user data.

We implement the following security measures:

  • All data transmitted by the AdMob SDK is encrypted in transit via TLS
  • On-device data is protected by your device’s native security mechanisms (encryption, biometric lock, etc.)
  • We regularly update the App and its SDKs to address known security vulnerabilities

While we take reasonable measures to protect information associated with your use of the App, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects your rights and freedoms, we will notify the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, as required by GDPR Article 33. Where required, we will also notify affected users without undue delay.

10. Your Rights – European Economic Area & UK (GDPR)

If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the GDPR:

  • Right of Access (Article 15): You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to Rectification (Article 16): You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal data.
  • Right to Erasure (Article 17): You have the right to request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”).
  • Right to Restrict Processing (Article 18): You have the right to request that we limit how we use your data.
  • Right to Data Portability (Article 20): You have the right to receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • Right to Object (Article 21): You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent (Article 7): Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
  • Right Related to Automated Decision-Making (Article 22): You have the right not to be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing that produce legal effects or similarly significant effects.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@namazmate.com. We will respond to your request within 30 days. We may ask you to verify your identity before processing your request.

Since the App does not require account registration and we do not store personal data on our servers, exercising the right to erasure can in most cases be accomplished by uninstalling the App (which deletes all locally stored data) and resetting your device’s advertising identifier.

11. Your Rights – California, USA (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA):

  • Right to Know: You have the right to request that we disclose what personal information we have collected, used, disclosed, and shared about you in the preceding 12 months.
  • Right to Delete: You have the right to request deletion of personal information we have collected from you.
  • Right to Correct: You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing: You have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (see Section 13).
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: You have the right to limit our use and disclosure of your sensitive personal information to only what is necessary to provide our services (see Section 14).
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: You have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising any of your privacy rights.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@namazmate.com. We will respond to your verifiable consumer request within 45 days. This period may be extended by an additional 45 days where reasonably necessary, with notice.

Categories of Personal Information Collected (preceding 12 months)

  • Geolocation data: precise location (on-device only, not transmitted to us)
  • Identifiers: device advertising identifiers (collected by AdMob SDK)
  • Internet/network activity: ad interaction data, general app usage (collected by AdMob SDK)

Categories of Personal Information Shared

  • Device identifiers and ad interaction data are shared with Google AdMob and its advertising partners for the purpose of serving advertisements.

We recognise and honour Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals. When we detect a GPC signal from your browser, we treat it as a valid opt-out of the sale or sharing of your personal information.

12. Your Rights – Australia (Privacy Act 1988)

If you are located in Australia, you have the following rights under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs):

  • Right of Access (APP 12): You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Right to Correction (APP 13): You have the right to request correction of inaccurate, out-of-date, or incomplete personal information.
  • Right to Complain: You have the right to lodge a complaint about our handling of your personal information (see Section 18).

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@namazmate.com. We will respond within a reasonable period.

Cross-border disclosure: Data collected by the AdMob SDK may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where Google operates. We take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

13. Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration.

However, our use of Google AdMob may constitute “sharing” of personal information (such as device identifiers and ad interaction data) with advertising partners as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). The categories of personal information shared include:

  • Device identifiers (IDFA/AAID)
  • IP address
  • Ad interaction data

These are shared with Google AdMob and its advertising partners for the purpose of serving targeted advertisements.

To opt out:

  • Adjust your device’s advertising settings (see Section 6.4)
  • Enable Global Privacy Control (GPC) in your browser when visiting our Website
  • Contact us at support@namazmate.com

We will process your opt-out request promptly. Opting out of sharing does not affect your ability to use the App. You will continue to see non-personalised advertisements.

14. Sensitive Personal Information

Precise geolocation is classified as sensitive personal information under the CCPA/CPRA. We use your precise geolocation solely for the purpose of calculating accurate prayer times and Qibla direction. This data is processed entirely on your device and is not transmitted to our servers or shared with any third party.

You have the right to limit our use of sensitive personal information. You can do this by disabling location permissions for the App in your device settings. Note that doing so will affect the accuracy of prayer times and disable the Qibla compass feature.

We do not infer any characteristics about you based on your use of this App. While the App is designed for Muslim prayer practice, we do not collect, store, or process any data about your religious beliefs or practices on our servers.

15. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages.

If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child, we will take immediate steps to delete that information. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@namazmate.com and we will promptly address the matter.

We comply with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the GDPR provisions regarding children’s data, and the Australian Privacy Act requirements for handling children’s personal information.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, legal requirements, or third-party services. When we make changes:

  • The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be revised.
  • For material changes that affect how we process your data, we will provide notice through the App or via a prominent notice on our Website before the changes take effect.
  • Where required by law, we will obtain your consent to material changes before they take effect.

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy, except where additional consent is required by law.

17. Contact Us

If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or our privacy practices, please contact us:

We aim to respond to all privacy-related enquiries within 30 days.
